Periodontal Surgery

There are MANY options for treatment between “just a cleaning” and extraction of a tooth – this is where pets can thrive and WHY every “tiny patient” gets its own treatment plan.

About Periodontal Surgery

When there is attachment (periodontal ligament between the alveolar bone and tooth root) LOSS due to periodontal disease, sometimes our only option is extraction. However, in less severe cases, treatments such as Root Planing and Guided Tissue Regeneration (GTR) can be used to gain soft tissue attachment (RP) or new alveolar bone and periodontal ligament attachment (GTR). These techniques are similar to those used in human periodontal treatment and allow strategically important/functional teeth to be saved. These surgeries are very rewarding and exciting. For best results, they require follow-up and pet/owner compliance with home oral hygiene.
